Saša Missoni, Phd
Saša Missoni, PhD, is the Director of the Institute for Anthropological Research, Zagreb, Croatia, since 2011. He is a Senior Scientific Associate and Assistant Professor in the scientific field of Biomedicine and Health Sciences. He has rich experience in national and international projects, having led two national project as the principal investigator („Croatian Islands’ Birth Cohort Study (CRIBS)“. Croatian Science Foundation (2015 – 2018) and „Dietary habits and metabolic syndrome in adolescents“. Croatian Food Agency (2011 – 2012)) and being a leader of the Croatian team in two international projects („Integrated GWAS and EWAS of Cardiometabolic Traits in an Island Population“. NIH – National Institutes of Health, USA (2016 – 2017) and „Genetic and environmental factors of insulin resistance syndrome and its long term complication in immigrant Mediterranean populations (MEDIGENE)“. European Commission (FP7) (2013 – 2015)). He is currenty the member of the Managing Board and associate of the Centre for Applied Bioanthropology (European fund for regional development, 2018 – 2019).
He has been the President of the following international congresses: IUAES Inter-Congress: „World Anthropologies and Privatization of Knowledge: Engaging Anthropology in Public“. Dubrovnik, 2016; EAA: 20th Congress of the European Anthropological Association „European Anthropology in a Changing World: From Culture to Global Biology“.
Zagreb, 2016, and the president of six Schools of Biological Anthropology “Dr. Hubert Maver” and six „Anthropology and Health“ meetings. He is the Vice-President of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and the President of the International Society for the Study of Human Growth and Clinical Auxology. Saša Missoni has mentored or co-mentored 5 doctoral theses and has tought courses in the field of nutrition and health at the Faculty of Food Technology, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, and at the University of Dubrovnik. He is a member of numerous national professional associations, such as the Croatian Society for Human Genetics, Croatian Anthropological Society, Croatian Society for Biotechnology, Croatian Society for Diabetes, Croatian Society for Obesity (member of EASO – European Association for the Study of Obesity) as well as international associations (International Society for Applied Biological Sciences (ISABS), Biosocial Society, International Society for the Study of Human Growth and Clinical Auxology (ISGA), European Anthropological Association (EAA), International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES), American Anthropological Association (AAA) etc. His main research focus are nutrition and health, dietary habits, transition, change of tradition with regards to diet etc. He has published one book, four book chapters, around 40 scientific papers and has participated in numerous international and national conferences.

The pandemic of Covid-19 has forced us to postpone the XVth International Congress of Auxology until 2021.
We are now planning to hold the Congress in Zagreb from the 3rd to 6th June 2021.
Zagreb is an international city with a variety of excellent accommodation and places of historic and cultural interest.
The website will be revamped soon to reflect the change of dates and venue and we look forward to hosting you in Zagreb in 2021!
